James Van Der Beek has been cast in ABC’s Football Wives pilot, and surprisingly, I’m fine with that. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he’ll play a rookie in the would-have-to-supersuck-not-to-
make-it-on-the-fall-schedule adaptation of the soapy Brit drama. I haven’t actually seen Van Der Beek in anything since Dawson’s Creek, and I just assumed I’d keep it that way. But here I am, totally willing to accept that he’s scored another likely hit show. Maybe all I needed was some distance between me and Dawson Leery. (I was a Pacey girl — weren’t we all in the end?) Or maybe I just required a reminder that Varsity Blues (pictured) was, in fact, a fine movie-going experience. (If you take “fine” to mean having most of the audience saying “I don’t want your life” out loud with him and clapping along with the team — which I do.)

So, PopWatchers, I’ve admitted whom I’d like to welcome back to the big time. Your turn.
