'Why Wasn't This a Huge Hit?' (Vol. 1)
Today, PopWatch debuts the rather self-explanatory new feature, “Why Wasn’t This a Huge Hit?,” and like champagne to the side of a luxury yacht, we christen our series with one of my all-time favorite neglected ditties, Lina’s sweet, effervescent 2001 single, “It’s Alright.” The horny bassline alone leaves one with no choice but to get down with one’s bad self; add some jaunty lyrics (Lina rhymes “Jehovah” with “got to know ya”), a wickedly contemporary old-school jazz vibe, and Lina’s flawless warble, and well, you’ll understand my pain. Did I mention Lina‘s as cute as a fresh-baked baby? Click here to check out the video and see for yourself. And then tell me, why wasn’t Lina’s “It’s Alright” a huge hit?
A. American radio sucks somethin’ awful.
B. Nobody likes a horn nowadays.
C. Not to worry, “It’s Alright” will be huge when it accompanies the arrival of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
D. Slezak, are you crazy? “It’s Alright” is wiggity wack.
