Today, PopWatch debuts the rather self-explanatory new feature, “Why Wasn’t This a Huge Hit?,” and like champagne to the side of a luxury yacht, we christen our series with one of my all-time favorite neglected ditties, Lina’s sweet, effervescent 2001 single, “It’s Alright.” The horny bassline alone leaves one with no choice but to get down with one’s bad self; add some jaunty lyrics (Lina rhymes “Jehovah” with “got to know ya”), a wickedly contemporary old-school jazz vibe, and Lina’s flawless warble, and well, you’ll understand my pain.
