As my colleagues Scott Brown and Jason Adams once memorably demonstrated, it’s not easy to manufacture a viral Internet sensation, especially when you’re working as part of a large corporate conglomerate. So it’ll be interesting to see what kind of results Dane Cook gets with his new workplace-humor video contest on YouTube that’s linked to his unfunny-looking new movie, Employee of the Month. I can’t say I’m encouraged by Cook’s promo — “get your putter out of the whale’s ass”? really? — nor by the “Soccer in Office” and staged-looking golfballs-in-car clips currently sitting atop the YouTube Employee of the Month channel. Or maybe I’m just a cranky beast who needs to be taken out back with a can of tuna. You tell me.
