It’s Emmy night, and Jeffrey Tambor is not sporting a bow tie. ”I don’t like to wear them. I look like a geek,” explains the Arrested Development dad. ”I look better in a longer tie. Actually, I look better in shorts, but I can’t wear ’em here.” Funny, Jeffrey! But really: With each passing awards show, the number of men wearing that natty collar-cinching fold of fabric gets smaller and smaller. In fact, except for host Conan O’Brien and a handful of other tuxedo traditionalists, dudes at this year’s Emmy ceremony were down-right casual?consider Piven’s ascot, Rescue Me star Denis Leary’s firefighter-red tie, Simon Cowell’s chest hair. Think about what women go through for eveningwear’s sake — waxing, spraying, corseting. Couldn’t the guys at least try to tie it on? ”This is me trying,” Insists neckwear-free honoree Ricky Gervais. ”Listen, they’re lucky I washed.”
