Rob Reiner’s preparation to do the voice of Screwie the baseball for this CG feature was deeply committed: ”First, you have to allow your children to hit you a lot with a bat, and get the feel of what it’s like to be hit,” he says. Such dedication suits the story of Yankee Irving (Jake T. Austin), a boy who sets out to retrieve Babe Ruth’s stolen bat on the eve of the 1932 World Series. Everyone’s Hero is also a nice tribute to its original director, Christopher Reeve. ”It’s the embodiment of his philosophy of life,” says Reiner. ”Which is, Don’t give up.”
