This young group polished old-time country, blues, and gospel to a concert-hall shine on their 2004 debut. Their latest, Riverside Battle Songs, has more of a juke-joint feel: Songwriting and arrangements are livelier, with more action from the quintet’s fine male voices and more rural soul from vocalists Amy Helm and Fiona McBain. Credit guest producer/multi-instrumentalist Larry Campbell and Ollabelle’s extensive wood-shedding in Woodstock, N.Y., where they often play with Helm’s dad, Levon (of The Band), and his pals. Like Poppa, they do the tradition proud.
