And the Glass Handed Kites, the fourth album from one of Denmark’s biggest rock bands is large in both sound and concept. Originally conceived as one hour-long song but now cut into 14 tracks, And the Glass is dominated by the heaven-bound voice of lead singer Jonas Bjerre, who sounds more than a little like My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields. Mew surge forth on dark, driving guitars, overwhelming vocal melodies, and retro-sounding synths (laser zaps and all), showing few signs of restraint as they deliver tunes perfect for a planetarium light show.
