The life of a single, 30-year-old indie-film actress is full of uncertainty and rejection. You can see why Sarah Lassez gets hooked on $4.99-per-minute phone psychics who predict impending stardom and romance. (You can also see why her prioritizing beauty products over food and fretting about what she’ll say at L.A.’s Chateau Marmont grow old, quickly.) While Psychic Junkie can be engrossing — you’ll want to know if she gets engaged to the German sous-chef whose e-mail account she obsessively hacks into — the stakes never feel high enough. Moreover, Lassez’s saviors — time and Zoloft — are not exactly revolutionary.
