The appeal of this 27-year-old British singer is what you’d call a no-brainer: Corinne Bailey Rae’s an attractive neo-soul songbird with a caressing voice that’s got an adorable Macy Gray-esque croak. Initially released in England in March, her debut album Corinne Bailey Rae will definitely please the chardonnay-sipping, adult contemporary set. It’s extremely agreeable, a bit predictable, and occasionally irresistible, especially on the single ”Put Your Records On,” a lightly funky bit of Oprah-style self-empowerment. As a dinner-party soundtrack, it’s perfectly pleasant, though the disc gets awfully samey by dessert.
