Frank (Ralph Fiennes, that glittering mosaic of tics and teeth) is a charlatan with a problem in Faith Healer: Every once in a while — there’s no predicting when — he can actually heal. And the lingering presence of hope is killing him. Grace (Doubt Tony winner Cherry Jones) is the woman doomed to love him, and Teddy (the gifted Ian McDiarmid, a.k.a. Star Wars‘ Palpatine) is his elfin Cockney manager. This sad, crooked triangle renders a sad, crooked tale in four lyric monologues, cleverly canceling each other out with hedges, lies, and delusions. Unfortunately, Brian Friel’s 1979 play nullifies itself as well — just when we’re ready to buy the snake oil. (212-239-6200)
