Signed to Thurston Moore’s imprint in the U.S. and heavily hyped among bloggers, BYOP were quickly embraced by the emperors of cool upon their emergence from Nashville last year. All teenage kicks and lo-fi, hard-strum snarl, the band’s manic sound is centered on 18-year-old singer Jemina Abegg, a photogenic blond moppet whose Karen O-ish stage antics go a long way toward distinguishing this fun — but not terribly original — punk band. When she asserts, in her grrrl-warrior growl, ”I am wildcat/You are a worm,” you believe it.
