As much as I love Deadwood, I think David Milch moving on from it to develop a series based on Kem Nunn‘s novels is a great idea. I’ve read all Nunn’s stuff, and it is made for the Milch treatment: literary thrillers, very visual, very philosophical without being stodgy, most set in the surfing subculture, with young hotshots and counterculture burn-outs, lots of rich stuff about buried family histories plus lots of fighting and crime. Think Point Break if Ross Macdonald had written the script and middle-period Don Siegel had directed. Or Milch. (Start with Tapping the Source if you’re going to read any of the books.)
