Music Charts: Godsmack debuts at No. 1
Rock is back, sort of, on this week’s Billboard album chart, as three rock acts with new releases take the top three slots. Debuting at No. 1, with sales of 211,000, is IV by Godsmack (pictured). Is that a Roman numeral or a reference to needles and veins? Hey, when your band has ”smack” in its name, one has to ask.
Entering the chart in second place is Taking Back Sunday’s Louder Now, while debuting in third is Bruce Springsteen’s We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions. (Okay, the Boss’ disc of folk covers isn’t exactly rock, more like Cajun, but still.) More rock down at No. 9, with the debut of Goo Goo Dolls’ Let Love In. In all, there were six new discs in the top 10 this week (the others were Avant’s Director at No. 4 and Rihanna’s A Girl Like Me at No. 5), compared to none last week. Looks as if the summer music season, like the summer movie season, is starting ever earlier. Time to roll down your convertible top, pop one of these CDs in your car stereo, and start annoying your neighbors.
