The stars of Speed reunite, but there isn’t a careening bus in sight. Rather, the remake of the South Korean film Siworae (Il Mare) tells of a Chicago doctor (Sandra Bullock) who trades love letters with one of her home’s previous owners (Keanu Reeves) through her mailbox. But since the would-be lovers exist in worlds that are actually two years apart, it’s one of those magical, time-spanning mailboxes. ”I’ve always believed in kismet, but I’ve never seen it in American films,” says Shohreh Aghdashloo (24), who plays Bullock’s confidante. ”It’s the most romantic story I’ve ever read.”
