Hollywood’s razing of his 1993 novel Strip Tease left a bad Tinseltown taste in Carl Hiaasen’s mouth, but old pals Wil Shriner and Jimmy Buffett convinced him to let them adapt and produce, respectively, his award-winning children’s book, the story of an eighth grader (Logan Lerman) and his campaign to save a family of owls from a real estate developer. On location in South Florida, the humidity got to the actors, especially Luke Wilson, who plays a bumbling cop. ”Before production started, they asked if I wanted to wear [a uniform with] shorts, and I was like, ‘God, no!”’ recalls Wilson. ”In retrospect, I should’ve done it!”
