Pick Mariah's new duet partner: Janet or Whitney?
So here’s a little news out of the strange-but-possibly-true-Mariah-Carey-duets department: MTV Radio (fifth item) is reporting that Mimi’s producer of choice, Jermaine Dupri (”We Belong Together,” ”Shake It Off”) is hoping to get her in the studio with his girlfriend Janet Jackson, and that Carey’s amenable to the idea. “I’ve been a big fan of Janet’s since Control. So if Jermaine has a concept, we should go and write something,” she said.
Meanwhile, a couple of not-terribly-well-sourced Web sites are reporting that Carey has also extended an invite to embattled diva Whitney Houston to team up for a career-rehabilitating track. While the latter prospect sounds intriguing (maybe that ”Do you like my glasses, glasses” ditty could work?), lingering memories of the dreary ”When You Believe” make me more excited about a Mariah-Janet pairing. Sure, it’s hard not to imagine Carey’s plus-sized vocals gobbling up Janet’s warble like Pac-Man to a blue ghost, but J.D. wouldn’t let that happen to his leading lady, would he?
Which duet would you rather hear? Mariah-Whitney or Mariah-Janet?
