''The Sentinel'' to feature Oleg Cassini clothing -- Kim Basinger wears the late designer's suits in the upcoming film
He dressed the most famous First Lady of his time, and before his death at age 92 on March 17, Continental clotheshorse Oleg Cassini got to outfit one more…sorta. In the political thriller The Sentinel (in theaters April 21), Kim Basinger — wife to David Rasche’s President Ballentine — wears some of Cassini’s latest creations. The designer’s widow, Marianne, offered us an exclusive look at his White House-ready sketches.
”It’s pale blue to match Kim’s eyes,” Marianne Cassini says of this silk two-piece by her late husband. ”He felt clothing was an envelope for the body. If you’ve got a body like Kim’s marvelous shoulders, long legs you get a very nice envelope!”
Basinger’s Bond girl roots shine in this silk-wool track suit. ”It’s Kim relaxing at Camp David,” Mrs. Cassini explains. ”Because even Jackie used to relax.” For us plebes, the Oleg Cassini Sport ensemble is available at Macy’s.
According to Mrs. Cassini, ”The look was elegant simplicity. What’s not to like? It’s simple, but really quite a knockout.” Basinger’s costar Michael Douglas agrees, deeming this navy blue silk number the most beautiful suit he’s ever seen.
