Remember when all we could talk about was how funny the ladies of Saturday Night Live are? Well, they still are, but new cast member Andy Samberg seems to be this season’s breakout star. The viral potential of SNL’s digital short films (Lazy Sunday, Natalie Raps) has raised Samberg’s profile enough to nab him a starring movie role.

In Hot Rod, Samberg will play an amateur daredevil who attempts stunts performed by Evel Knievel to win over his stepfather. Sounds like Will Ferrell territory to me — here’s hoping it’s his Old School and not his Anchorman. Me, I’d rather see him in the big-screen version of The ‘Bu, an O.C. spoof concocted by Samberg and his comic cohorts at Lonely Island (and co-starring Scrubs‘ Sarah Chalke, incidentally).

What do you think? Andy Samberg, Movie Star? Can you see it?
