Johnny Cash’s life was perfect fodder for a feature film, so why not a musical? This misguided revue tells you why not, over and over. The smiley-faced, sub-Opry production numbers reduce Cash’s songs to Nashville soap-opera schmaltz or hokey gags; his somber dignity is all but erased. The cast, which includes pop-country singer Lari White, makes the best of it, even when forced to line dance. But apparently it never occurred to anyone that line dance and Johnny Cash should never be used in the same sentence, or production. (212-239-6200)
