Clerks II won’t be out until the fall, but USA Today has a three-story package today on the making of Kevin Smith’s sequel to his career-launching 1994 indie hit. Asked if he’s selling out by making a sequel, Smith says he felt a need to tell a story about being forced to grow up, which is what happens to his perpetual slacker characters from the original movie here, but he also says he’ll push the envelope on comic raunch. Sounds like Smith himself hasn’t totally grown up; then again, I’m old enough to feel nostalgia for Clerks, and it could be fun to spend a couple hours at the class reunion.
