Saturday Night Live - Season 42

When a movie captures the cultural zeitgeist, it’s open season for satire, so it should come as no surprise that Brokeback Mountain has inspired quite a few spoofs and an endless string of jokes. (“I wish I knew how to quit you” is the new “You had me at hello.”) Some of the parodies are pretty hilarious, like the trailer for Brokeback to the Future, which reimagines Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) as forbidden lovers. Others, like SNL‘s Brokeback Goldmine, are about as fresh as refrigerator-cleanout day. Then, there’s the joke from Tina Fey’s dad, the one you know you shouldn’t laugh at, but you do (a little) anyway. And finally, there’s the off-putting antics of Brokeback stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger (pictured), unable to contain their nervous laughter while introducing their movie at the SAG awards Sunday night. Maybe the Oscar-nominated actors had imbibed a little too much, or maybe they were just having a goof on the typically sober awards show banter, but something about the ”gay love equals nervous chuckles” vibe they were giving off struck me as disrespectful.

What do you think, PopWatchers? Are you laughing with or at Ennis and Jack? Or are you not laughing at all?
