Looks like Kelly Clarkson has blinked and agreed to let American Idol contestants sing her songs after all. You’ll recall that yesterday, Clarkson’s publicist said that she wasn’t licensing her songs to Idol or anyone else. Simon Cowell gave her a public smackdown, accusing her of being an ingrate who was turning her back on the show and the fans who launched her career. (Cowell, of course, put it more colorfully, saying, ”It’s like saying to every person who voted for you, ‘You know what? Thank you. I’m not interested in you anymore.”’)

Today, however, the same Clarkson publicist says, ”She intended all along to license additional material to the show and will do so when asked and within reason.” Maybe this is Kelly’s way of conceding Simon’s point, but on the other hand, could you blame Kelly, who’s been politely trying to distance herself from Idol for about a year, for being reluctant to allow this season’s wannabes to butcher perform her hits? Think this fight is over?

Which side are you on: Team Clarkson or Team Cowell?
