Tom Hanks + Julia Roberts = Celebrity supernova?
Is the big screen big enough for a movie that combines the star wattage of Tom Hanks (near left) and Julia Roberts (far left)? In fact, can one movie be large enough to contain them both? Will there be cashboxes huge enough for the receipts from what will surely be the highest-grossing movie of all time? Will the set of Charlie Wilson’s War be vast enough to encompass the artistry of Hanks, Roberts, Mike Nichols, and Aaron Sorkin? Can Hollywood survive the gravitational pull of so much talent in such a concentrated space, or will it produce a black hole that sucks all of showbiz into its merciless maw? And will there be room alongside the film’s lionization of Wilson, a Texas congressman who channeled covert aid to anti-Soviet forces in Afghanistan in the 1980s, for the movie to note that Wilson’s efforts helped make possible the rise of the Taliban and Osama bin Laden? Uh, wait, never mind. How about them stars?!
