Dancing Bows JUNE 1

ABC debuts its celebrity ballroom-dancing competition Dancing With the Stars, and in July, more than 22 million people tune in for Kelly Monaco’s victory over favorite John O’Hurley. After Celebrity Boot Camp, Celebrity Boxing, and I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, TV viewers wonder, ”What can’t D-list stars do?” The answer: ”Score a gig that doesn’t involve prancing around like a circus monkey.”

Destiny to Disband JUNE 11

During a concert in Barcelona, the ladies of Destiny’s Child announce that they are breaking up after their current tour. Beyoncé Knowles will go on to star in the films The Pink Panther and Dreamgirls. Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams will go on to see them.

Crowe’s Phoney Act JUNE 6

When Russell Crowe has trouble getting a call through to his wife from his Manhattan hotel, he hurls a phone at the head of a concierge, who has to be glad the actor wasn’t trying to send an e-mail.

Jackson Cleared JUNE 13

Michael Jackson is acquitted of all molestation-related charges after a nearly four-month trial. Macaulay Culkin defended him on the stand, while Corey Feldman attacked him on 20/20. Oh, Bubbles the chimp, where are you when we need a tiebreaker?

Hermés Shuts Out Oprah JUNE 14

When Oprah Winfrey is turned away from a Hermés store in Paris — despite seeing people inside — her rep cries racism. The store later apologizes, explaining that there was a private function being set up at the time. Meanwhile, Dr. Phil cries foul when employees at an L.A. Taco Bell turn out the lights when he tries to enter. The workers deny bias, explaining they just didn’t have time for the 43 bits of homespun wisdom that come every time Phil orders a Gordita Supreme.
