Deals: 'Watchmen,' Avril, Laurence Fishburne
–Watchmen watch: Warner Bros. picks up the movie from turnaround at Paramount, fires director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy) and writer David Hayter (X-Men). In other words, Watch-fans, we’re back at square one, though this could open the door for Terry Gilliam to adapt the graphic novel. (Yeah, right. But I can dream.)
-Richard Linklater’s adaptation of non-fiction polemic Fast Food Nation has an all-star cast, including Patricia Arquette, Bobby Cannavale, Luis Guzman, Ethan Hawke, Greg Kinnear, Kris Kristofferson, Avril Lavigne, Esai Morales, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Lou Taylor Pucci, and Wilmer Valderrama. Props to Avril (who was also recently given a small part in this project) for the good taste to work with School of Rock‘s Linklater, and for not making a bigger and riskier film splash in a star vehicle like Britney’s Crossroads.
-Laurence Fishburne is writing, directing, and starring in The Alchemist, according to Production Weekly (click the link marked ”december sixteen”). He’s adapting the 1993 Paulo Coelho fable about a well-read shepherd whose revelations in a dream inspire him to go fortune-hunting in Egypt. Okay, but when do Fishburne and Keanu start kicking computer-generated ass?
