TV Cancellations: 'Reunion,' 'Threshold,' 'Properties'
Ever feel a sense of relief when a show you’ve been watching every week gets cancelled? Funny enough, that was my reaction to the news that Fox’s Reunion (left) and CBS’ Threshold are all but kaput. (ABC’s Hot Properties is going the way of the dodo, too.)
Reunion‘s concept was unique and ambitious — each episode covered one year in the lives of six characters, starting with 1986 and leading up to one of their murders — but the show’s execution was anything but. The dialogue was stilted, the ’80s fashions wildly hit-or-miss, and every story arc was telegraphed with the subtlety of a sledgehammer to the head.
Threshold‘s pilot, meanwhile, was genuinely thrilling, but as EW’s TV critic Gillian Flynn pointed out in her recent review of the show, the Carla Gugino vehicle had steadily devolved into crisis-of-the-week dreck. Bottom line, cleaning my backlog of these series’ episodes from my DVR will be akin to scrubbing the kitchen floor. A little daunting at first, but ultimately satisfying. How about you, PopWatchers? Will you miss any of these series?
