The nominations are out for the Independent SpiritAwards, held the day before the Oscars. TheSquid and the Whale leads the nominations with six. Most of the nominated films are only in limited release, but here are five you should definitely check outbefore the March 4 ceremony.

1. Me and You and Everyone We Know Miranda July’s debutfilm about, well, life in general. Thesubtle soundtrack adds the perfect background to the mediocre lives of thecharacters.

2. Head-On A German film about two people who, aftersurviving failed suicide attempts, decide to get married but still have an openrelationship.

3. Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room Based on the bookof the same name, this documentary will make you cringe at the arrogance of corporate America.

4. Happy Endings Don’t take the title literally. This dark comedy is mostly about broken lives. Look for stand-out performances by TomArnold, Laura Dern, Jason Ritter, and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

5. Grizzly Man Dying for your work is sad. Especially when you study grizzly bears. This documentary was made from footage that survived its cameraman.
