Terrence Howard, Crash (Movie - 2005)

The very, very first movie awards show of the 2005 season is already upon us. It’s the 2005 Black Movie Awards, airing on TNT next Wednesday, Oct. 19. (No, I hadn’t heard of them either.) The ceremony, taped last night at Los Angeles’ Wiltern Theatre, saw top honors go to Crash, named Best Picture; Terrence Howard, named Best Actor for Hustle & Flow (he was also nominated for his supporting role in Crash, left); Kimberly Elise, named Best Actress for Diary of a Mad Black Woman; and Hustle‘s Anthony Anderson and Taraji P. Henson, named Best Supporting Actor and Actress.

Now, the narrow focus of these awards means they’re hardly a reliable Oscar predictor. Still, Crash and Howard have received some of the year’s best reviews, and every prize and positive mention surely helps their chances next March, so oddsmakers, start your engines…
