Good news for fans of The Shield: First, the show’s fifth season begins in January, a couple months sooner than usual. Second, the F/X drama has drawn another movie star into the cast. Following the example Glenn Close’s fierce, Emmy-nominated turn this season will be Forest Whitaker, who’ll play ambitous Internal Affairs detective Jon Kavanaugh, a new nemesis for rogue cop Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis). Kavanaugh ”will present the biggest danger to Vic and his team in the history of the series so far,” series creator Shawn Ryan tells the Hollywood Reporter. ”He’s going to be a great foil for the guys on our show. Forest has always impressed me with his range. He’s got an incredible sweetness and soulfulness but also strength.” Watch your back, Vic.
