How Tina Fey and Nancy Kerrigan plan to rock your TV
Yeah yeah, the new fall TV season isn’t even underway (well, except for the addictive Prison Break — one word: toes! Ouch!), but that’s not going to stop PopWatch from obsessing about what the networks are planning for midseason, like Tina Fey’s NBC sitcom based on her life as a sketch-comedy writer. The Futon Critic scored a casting notice for the show (in which Fey will apparently play a character named Lisa Lemon), and other roles will include ”a chirpy Clay Aiken-type NBC page,” ”a Paris Hilton-esque assistant,” and a pair of writers (one a ”Harvard type,” the other ”a heavy-set, working-class” guy) who butt heads. (Hmmm — I wonder how Aiken would take to being described as ”chirpy”…)
I’ll need more specifics before I decide to devote any TiVo space to Fey’s project, but as for Fox’s upcoming Skating With Celebrities, let’s just say that I’m still wiping the drool off my keyboard after hearing that such ice babies as Nancy Kerrigan, Tai Babilonia, and Kurt Browning will be salchow-ing and camel-ing with the likes of ’80s songbird Debbie Gibson, Diff’rent Strokes star Todd Bridges, and Olympic champ Bruce Jenner, among others. I just wish I could find out which stars got cut from the roster on account of their woeful skating skills. (Fox exec Mike Darnell tells Variety some C-listers were ”so desperate, they were hanging on the walls [of the ice rink].”) And what? No Tonya Harding? Or Midori Ito?
Oh, and speaking of freaky fabulous ideas, this year’s Emmys will feature various TV stars and singers pairing up for duets of favorite TV show themes, with viewers voting on their favorite. While I’m certainly intrigued by the idea of Veronica Mars‘ Kristen Bell belting out ”Fame,” my early money’s on Macy Gray and Gary Dourdan (CSI) singing The Jeffersons‘ ”Movin’ on Up.” I’ll gladly vote for a piece of that pie!
