Sizzling and stifling fashion at the VMAs. MTV's award show brings out the best and worst looks

How indestructible were MTV’s Video Music Awards? A hurricane, a shooting, and particularly stifling South Beach sizzle couldn’t stop them. On Aug. 28, the white carpet was full of glitter, from Beyoncé’s Dolce gown (and her groupmates in Cavalli) to Lil Jon’s grille. Those who skipped the metallics did so at their own risk: The Simpson sisters crashed and burned, and floor-length denim made Joss Stone drag. But Gwen Stefani (in L.A.M.B.) picked up host Diddy’s best-dressed award — much to Eva Longoria’s dismay: ”After the swimsuit [by Shay Todd] wouldn’t you have changed your mind? I’m gonna give Diddy s— at the party.”
