Searching For a Former Clarity

Despite the naïveté of Against Me!’s simplistic screeds against Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (”From Her Lips to God’s Ears”), pseudo-intellectuals (”Don’t Lose Touch”), and the music industry (”Unprotected Sex With Multiple Partners”), there’s a quaint charm to these gritty punks from Gainesville, Fla. On their third record, Searching for a Former Clarity, the quartet embellish their acoustic agitprop with hoots, hollers, hand claps, and dingy distortion, unleashing a visceral, irresistibly anthemic riot.
