Surely by now, you know these guys: Johnny Knoxville, 34, injured himself for your amusment on MTV’s Jackass before going all thesp on us (Men in Black II, Walking Tall), while Seann William Scott, 28, served up freshly baked comedy in the American Pie trilogy and Dude, Where’s My Car? What happened when they teamed up to git-r-done in the new big-screen remake of The Dukes of Hazzard? We rode shotgun with ’em to find out.

It’s bold that you guys are taking a beloved TV institution to the big screen. Could this spark a trend? Do you think someday we’ll live in a world where there’s a Brady Bunch movie, maybe even a Starsky & Hutch film?
JK No, no, no — Hollywood’s far too creative for that. We’re just waiting for the hard-R version of The Golden Girls.
SWS I want Blanche so bad it hurts.

Were you worried that it may not be scientifically possible to replace the John Schneider-Tom Wopat tandem?
JK Those guys will always be Bo and Luke Duke to me.
SWS Catherine Bach — I still have the poster. And the lunch box I called the producer. I was like, ”I think this movie could be a lot of fun. The script needs a lot of work, but I would only do it if we get Johnny Knoxville.” I didn’t think we could. We had to convince him for about two months.
JK My concern was that the show was great, but it was very middle-of-the-road. It was television. I wanted to know that we’d be able to expand upon that and make it racier. And [producer Bill Gerber and director Jay Chandrasekhar] gave me their assurances and kept to their word.
