Why Julia Roberts is doing Broadway

News that Julia Roberts will be appearing on Broadway next spring in a little-known drama, Three Days of Rain, by Richard Greenberg (Take Me Out), prompts an obvious question: Why now? Here are some possible reasons:
-Broadway does so few straight dramas these days, so it took Roberts a while to find a stage opportunity that didn’t require her to sing.
-Her role is part of the Tony committee’s new plan to get people to watch their awards show.
-The run’s only 12 weeks, not too long to cut into her $20 million-a-picture movie career.
-Now that she’s a mom, she’s looking for mom roles, which Hollywood isn’t quite ready to give her.
-The theater is near the world’s largest Toys R Us store.
-It’s hard to get good bagels when you live in New Mexico.
