The sitcom is alive! Long live sitcoms!
Remember all those ”The Sitcom Is Dead” articles (including ours)? Look for the reverse this fall; judging by advance response on the TV Critics Association tour, Chris Rock’s Everybody Hates Chris and Jason Lee’s My Name Is Earl will inspire a spate of ”The Sitcom Is Reborn” stories. (Sample advance raves for UPN’s Chris are here and here; for NBC’s Earl, here and here.) So if sitcoms are back, and reality shows are back, guess another genre has to die. How about a wave of ”The Primetime Newsmagazine Is Dead” stories? TV critics haven’t killed those off lately.
