Oliver!

Fagin is one of the 10 worst movie mentors

WHO IS HE? From the pages of Charles Dickens, Fagin (Ron Moody) is a master pickpocket who runs a crime family of London street urchins, including the Artful Dodger (Jack Wild, right), who recruits naïve and needy boys like Oliver Twist (Mark Lester, left).

BAD INFLUENCE Not only does he encourage the boys to steal, but he also introduces them to an underworld full of truly dangerous characters, like Bill Sikes (Oliver Reed).

REDEEMING QUALITIES He really does have a fatherly affection for his charges, whom he calls ”my dears.” He’s certainly a kinder guardian to Oliver than Mr. Bumble at the orphanage was. Also, he sings well. (Moody gets two showcase numbers in the musical, including ”You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two.”)
