Johnny Depp updates the Associated Press on his plan to blast Hunter S. Thompson’s ashes out of a cannon mounted on a 150-foot tower behind Thompson’s home near Aspen on August 20, six months to the day after the 67-year-old’s suicide. ”I just want to send my pal out the way he wants to go out,” says Depp, who befriended the author when he played Thompson’s alter ego in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. (More details in the Denver Post.) Good thing Depp has picked up some experience with cannons by playing pirate Jack Sparrow.
