After her mom commits suicide, a gloomy 9-year-old girl (Dakota Fanning) moves upstate with her head-shrinking dad (Robert De Niro, making faces like an IBS sufferer) and her possibly murderous imaginary friend. Alas, in Hide and Seek, their house is haunted by the ghosts of creepy-kid flicks like The Omen and Problem Child 2, and once the body count rises, so do the red herrings and here-comes-the-plot-twist teases. EXTRAS Seek and ye shall find all kinds of crap, like a limp making-of, blah deleted scenes, and an overexplanatory commentary. What Fox hopes will grab you are the four heavily hyped ”alternate” endings. Be warned: They’re all slightly rejiggered variations on the same weak Psych 101 ideas and, in total, barely break the eight-minute mark.
