Jessica Simpson

Go ahead and compare for yourself, but in my mind, Jessica Simpson isn’t fit to polish Nancy Sinatra’s ”Boots,” let alone wear ’em. The Dukes of Hazzard star may have Willie Nelson in her corner, but she makes one misstep after the next in reinterpreting Sinatra’s classic ”These Boots Are Made for Walkin’.”

For starters, Simpson’s kittenish delivery turns a brilliant send-off (”Are you ready boots? Start walkin!”) into an inexplicable come-on. Not only that, her updated lyrics gut the campy fun of the original in favor of lame Dukes references. And as far as videoclips go, maybe Sinatra (and her backup dancers) never quite got their choreography down, but watching Mrs. Lachey’s unconvincing Christina Aguliera impression reminds me of something my dear old Aunt Sassy used to say: Note to self: I don’t need to see that!”
