Badass leather, denim cutoffs, and just about anything Angelina Jolie slips into in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Sartorially speaking, the forecast calls for one long hot summer movie season (emphasis on hot — Rob Schneider’s flowered leisure suit in Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo notwithstanding). Here’s a preview of our favorite looks.

1. THE WHITE STUFF From Angelina Jolie’s curve-hugging sundress in Smith to Jessica Biel’s snug militarywear in Stealth, white will heat up movie screens this season. But it’s Scarlett Johansson’s body-clinging jacket in The Island that’s most likely to set off the fire alarms.

2. KNIT WIT Getting into suburban if not quite full-blown Desperate Housewife mode, Nicole Kidman makes the dainty pastels and cuddly sweaters she wears in Bewitched look positively hip. Bree Van De Kamp would be so proud.

3. KNEE-HIGHS In Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Angelina Jolie scales a building while dressed in a formfitting black trench coat that opens to reveal over-the-knee black leather boots. Proof that this actress can look sexy as hell even when she’s doing — or wearing — the most outrageous things.

4. PREP SCHOOL Argyle sweaters and madras pants are so yesterday. But Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn actually manage to pull them off in Wedding Crashers. Bonus points for Rachel McAdams’ white loose-knit sweater and Pucci-esque head scarf — breezy vacation wear at its best.

5. DAISY CHAIN Yes, it’s stating the obvious to say Jessica Simpson looks great in The Dukes of Hazzard. But who else can wear denim cutoffs, sky-high platforms, and a barely there top while projecting an air (be it ever so slight) of innocence? Britney?

6. JACKET REQUIRED Who needs Katie Holmes as arm candy? When Tom Cruise enters action-star mode and gets heroic in this distressed brown number (highlighted with cool racing stripes and a hoodie) in War of the Worlds, he hits the right note of rugged chic.
