Age 34

Mustworthiness The comic-turned-serious actor infuses The Shield‘s drug lord Antwon Mitchell with so much intensity and rage that it’s hard to believe we’re watching the same guy who headlined Kangaroo Jack and Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London.

On Typecasting ”I had to fight for this. Hollywood can be myopic and only see you one way. But I didn’t blame FX network. They never saw this side of me.”

Inspiration ”I knew guys like Antwon when I was growing up in Compton, so there’s only one degree of separation between me and the character.”

No Laughing Matter ”The buddies I grew up with never thought I was funny. They criticize me more for the comedic stuff than for the dramatic stuff.”

On His Must List ”Carbs. They’re killing me, man. I’m trying to get back to my Denzel weight.”

Next The Departed, a crime drama, opposite Jack Nicholson and Leonardo DiCaprio.
