There are some comforting lessons behind the fact that Coldplay entered the Billboard album chart at No. 1 this week — while new releases by Black Eyed Peas, the White Stripes, and Shakira also did extremely well, coming in at nos. 2, 3, and 4. The success of all these acts seems to indicate that there’s no career downside to:  naming your kid after a piece of fruit, performing at the Democratic National Convention, eloping with a model in the Amazon jungle, or waiting four years to follow-up your English-language breakthrough with a release in Spanish.  Whew.
