How huge is this ABC reality show? Not only did it top the Nielsen ratings in only its second week on the air, but it’s already inspired a similar show on Fox, to be called Skating with Celebrities. ”If it’s interesting to see celebrities master ballroom dancing,” Fox reality guru Mike Darnell told Variety, ”it’s going to be incredibly interesting to see if they can master a double axel and a spin.” You gotta admire Darnell, not just because he’s found yet another way to capitalize on our schadenfreude over watching stars (like Rachel Hunter, left, with professional partner Jonathan Roberts) fall on their butts, but also because, after all the legal challenges Fox has faced from other networks over its great-minds-think-alike approach to reality programming, he doesn’t even pretend that Skating is an original idea. Now, that’s chutzpah.

What do you think? Does Dancing deserve its popularity? Would you watch Fox’s on-ice version?
