Destiny's Child split for good
Destiny's Child split for good. Trio announces it will dissolve at the end of the current Destiny Fulfilled Tour
Kelly Rowland had a shocking surprise for fans at Destiny’s Child’s concert on Saturday in Barcelona, Spain: According to MTV News, she told the crowd that, after the current Destiny Fulfilled? And Lovin’ It Tour is over, the group is splitting up. The R&B trio, who’ve sold 40 million CDs over the years, have gone solo before, but this time, they’re retiring the Destiny’s Child name for good and going their separate ways, as they confirmed in a statement released to MTV.
”We have been working together as Destiny’s Child since we were 9, and touring together since we were 14,” the statement read. (That’s not entirely accurate; Beyoncé Knowles was 9 when the group started in 1990, but Rowland joined two years later, and after a few more lineup changes, Michelle Williams joined in 1999.) ”After a lot of discussion and some deep soul searching, we realized that our current tour has given us the opportunity to leave Destiny’s Child on a high note, united in our friendship and filled with an overwhelming gratitude for our music, our fans, and each other. After all these wonderful years working together, we realized that now is the time to pursue our personal goals and solo efforts in earnest.”
The three singers have gone off on their own before — they were all busy with individual music and acting projects in the three years after the release of their album Survivor in 2001 — but they always insisted that they would eventually reunite, making good on the promise with the release of Destiny Fulfilled in 2004. The North American leg of the tour is still expected to take place as originally scheduled, beginning July 9 in St. Louis and ending Sept. 10 in Vancouver. Concluded the statement: ”No matter what happens, we will always love each other as friends and sisters and will always support each other as artists. We want to thank all of our fans for their incredible love and support and hope to see you all again as we continue fulfilling our destinies.”
