True believers in the primacy of power pop — hereafter referred to as ”powp” — will recognize Yellow Pills: Prefill as the name of the fanzine that vintage record nut Jordan Oakes used to edit. Those two words have come to signify the underground powp empire now largely curated by the Midwestern music hound (who assembled this two-CD compilation). Prefill rescues yet more records-you-never-suspected-existed from obscurity, including strong efforts by the Finns (”Hello Mr. Jenkins”), the Speedies (”You Need Pop”), and the Trend (”She’s Hi-Fi”). ‘Taint necessarily life-altering, but hardcore powp fans will most assuredly want to get their hands on this sucker.
