The biggest twist of the serial-murder mystery The Killing Club involves its coauthor Marcie Walsh. She doesn’t exist. She’s a character on ABC’s daytime soap One Life to Live. The book, penned by former OLTL head writer Michael Malone, has become part of the show’s story line. Kathy Brier, 29, who plays Marcie, got into character to tell all.

Were you inspired by your old job as Llanview police station receptionist?

Definitely! I’d sneak around and read case files. My boss would say, ”You’re not supposed to be reading that.” And I’m like, ”I was just filing it, that’s all I was doing.”

Llanview has its share of murders.

[Laughs] I don’t know why I’m living there!

Do you worry about life imitating art?

I would be terrified if someone were to read the book and get ideas of murdering people. [According to OLTL producers, Marcie should look out!]

Pine Valley‘s Erica Kane [Susan Lucci’s character on All My Children] wrote a book several years ago. Think you’ll out-sell her?

Erica Kane is this big superstar! I’m this young kid in this little town that maybe 10 people know. If it does any sales, it’ll be fabulous.
