We’re dying to see ”Robots”
RELEASE DATE March 11
WHY WE CAN’T WAIT After the frozen treat Ice Age, we want to see what digital animator Chris Wedge and Co. do next.
THE PREMISE In an all-robot world, inventor Rodney Copperbottom (shown, voiced by Ewan McGregor) finds romance, corporate intrigue, and a group of low-tech misfits known as the Rusties, led by Fender (Robin Williams).
SOURCE The visual imagination of kids’-book artist William Joyce, the man behind TV’s Rolie Polie Olie
THE BACK STORY Originally, this was going to be a musical, with tunes like ”Follow Your Ticker,” but Twentieth Century Fox found the results too retro and had the film rewritten, sans songs.
BURNING QUESTION Will these mechanical characters have enough heart to give the movie broad appeal?
COME FOR The nifty CGI work
STAY FOR The nifty voice work of such stars as Halle Berry, Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Coolidge, and Mel Brooks
