The Ballad of Jack and Rose: IFC Films

We’re dying to see ”The Ballad of Jack & Rose”

WHY WE CAN’T WAIT On those increasingly rare occasions when he’s not cobbling shoes, Daniel Day-Lewis is one of film’s finest actors.

THE PREMISE Jack (Day-Lewis) is an environmentalist recluse living on a remote island that once housed a hippie commune. Sheltered teenage daughter Rose (Camilla Belle), the Miranda to his Prospero, becomes unhinged when Jack’s girlfriend (Catherine Keener, pictured, left with Day-Lewis) and her two teenage sons move in.

SOURCE An original story by filmmaker Rebecca Miller (Personal Velocity)

THE BACK STORY Miller sent Day-Lewis her script nearly a decade ago, well before the two met and married.

BURNING QUESTION Will the reclusive Day-Lewis ever make another movie for someone who isn’t his wife?

COME FOR The intense drama

STAY FOR The surprising vein of humor that Day-Lewis says runs throughout the screenplay
