Thirteen proves lucky for this wickedly clever Scottish crime master in this whodunit featuring husband-and-wife team Detective Chief Inspectors Lloyd and Judy Hill. In Unlucky For Some, they test their quasinew marriage by investigating a series of highly publicized murders, including the bludgeoning of a bingo winner and the stabbing of a vagabond. Granted, the opening chapters of this tangled web of a caper call for the occasional page reread due to the bevy of quickly introduced characters and ultrafast scene shifts. But Jill McGown’s wry, deftly written drama and head-scratching red herrings are irresistibly addictive.
