Speeches, schmeeches: Sometimes what we think our celeb friends are saying when they’re off stage is better than what comes out when they’re on. Take Natalie Portman: giddily repeating the F-bomb her character dropped in the Closer clip for the benefit of those at her table who missed it. Or Naomi Watts mouthing ”I love Prince!” as the tiny one took the stage. Or Kate Winslet, to a companion, on Charlize Theron: ”She’s beautiful!!” Or Quentin Tarantino’s ”That’s what I’m talkin’ about!” when Uma Thurman’s best actress nom was announced. But our favorite lip-read of the night? Virginia Madsen’s joyful ”Oh, Mom!” when Sideways won best comedy. We’re suckers for sentimentality.
